I was wondering if, when our assignments are being marked, that we could receive a mark out of 20 for the STEP question on that assignment to give us an idea of how we are doing/ how our mistakes would be penalised in the real thing?

Marking schemes

We thought about providing additional feedback in the form of a mark for the STEP question, but decided against it. The practical reason is that it would take our mentors considerably longer to work with a detailed marking scheme (and it would take us a considerable time to produce one that covered even the most common approaches - STEP marking schemes are usually very long). Another reason is that, because of preparation section, the mark you received would not be very meaningful. And finally, we think the aim of this project should be to help you become better mathematicians rather than help you pass examinations.
